SIIT and Skills Canada Partner up for Provincial Skills 2017

SIIT and Skills Canada Saskatchewan have partnered together to build welding tables for the Provincial Skills Competition 2017. The Saskatoon welding program welcomed this opportunity to provide the labour while Skills Canada Saskatchewan provided all material needed to make this project a success. Led by our great welding instructors Aaron Reid and Frankie Park, the students from both our 22 week Welding Applied Certificate Program and our 39 week Welding Certificate Program participated in the project. S.I.I.T Trades and Industrial Department will also have a booth at the competition this year.

“Building these tables allows the learners in our welding program to gain experience with trying something new that is outside of their regular curriculum”

Welding Program Coordinator Sam Whitehawk also stated, “They can see their finished work and be proud that their accomplishments are being used to benefit the Competition.”

“This partnership and project allows SIIT pre-employment students to use the welding skills they have been taught in a real work situation.” Said Al Gabert, Executive Director, Skills Canada Saskatchewan. “We have had a long standing partnership with SIIT and are very pleased the program has allowed us to work together on this project for our Provincial Skills competition.”
