The Program Coordinator, Trades & Industrial, is responsible for coordinating and managing training initiatives with First Nation Communities across Saskatchewan. The incumbent is responsible for the coordination of programs from start to finish, including administration and financial budgeting, program development, monitoring, as well as, recruitment of instructors and students, and completing evaluations. This position includes, but is not limited to, the following broad range of accountabilities: 

  1. Coordination, Monitoring & Academic Administration
  • Identify, initiate, and support the coordination of various training programs for Bands/Tribal Councils as requested
  • Assist in identifying capital facilities and equipment for programs where required
  • Lead the recruitment and selection of students for all programs
  • Coordinate work experience practicums and monitor student success in conjunction with instructors where applicable
  • Coordinate and prepare new classroom sites and required resources in rural communities, as well as, ensuring the maintenance of the site
  • Prepare and submit reports to internal and external stakeholders as required
  • Liaise with students, instructors, stakeholders and partners to provide explanations related to academic regulations, student records, programs and calendars

2.Partnering & Reporting

  • Collaborate with Bands, Tribal Councils and other agencies to identify appropriate programming and delivery
  • Create and strengthen linkages between SIIT and First Nations communities in order to meet community professional development and educational needs
  • Develop, promote and maintain positive working relationships with Bands, Industry, Tribal Councils, FSIN, funding institutions, and other institutes and partners
  1. People Management & Student Focus
  • Coach, train and develop employees to ensure growth and development of those individuals
  • Conduct regular reviews with direct reports; ensure adherence to SIIT policies and procedures
  • Ensure a positive, diverse, inclusive work and learning environment
  • Assist in building and leading the department through employee selection
  • Implement and monitor effective student retention strategies
  • Monitor student attendance and implement disciplinary action as per SIIT policy

Required Qualifications and Experience: A Journeyperson certification is required, coupled with knowledge and experience regarding the Saskatchewan Apprenticeship system. Experience working with MS Office including Word, Access, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook is required.  Experience working in post-secondary education is considered an asset. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.  Knowledge of First Nations cultures and organizations would be an asset. Incumbent must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation as travel is required.
