SIIT Joint Training Committee Journeyperson Award

Creating Opportunities for First Nations/Aboriginal Apprenticeship
On Nov 19, 2010 SIIT Joint Training Committee presented four SIIT students with the Journeyperson Award at the Saskatchewan Apprenticeship Awards night in Regina. These awards are given annually to acknowledge and celebrate the successful designation of a Journeyperson, through demonstrating hard work, dedication, overcoming adversity and high achievement on the inter-provincial exam in their chosen trade. From left to right Mark Gettle (CCR manager), Brandon Pelletier (JP Plumber), David Bird (JP electrician), Tara Leggott (JP Carpenter), Chad Kessler (JP Carpenter) and Shelley Macnab (JTC Coordinator).
In 1999, SIIT worked with the Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission (SATCC) to establish the SIIT Joint Training Committee (JTC). The JTC indentures First Nations/Aboriginal people in the construction trades in Saskatchewan and assists the apprentices to achieve full journeyperson status in their respective trades.
SIIT works closely with the SATCC to create opportunities for apprenticeship and achieve its goals and objectives, along with those of the Construction Career Centres and the SATCC.
