First Nations Orientation to Day Care & Head Start

The First Nations Orientation to Daycare & Head Start Online Program is designed to provide the minimum level of training and skill development required for entry-level work as a child care worker in licensed First Nations child care centres. The training outcomes of the program are comparable with related provincial training programs in order to facilitate employment of First Nations child care workers within both First Nation and provincial jurisdictions.

The program courses will be available on a part-time delivery schedule to accommodate existing workers who require certified training. The program includes online course materials with assignments and a practicum. The practicum is a required component for completing the program. The program is supervised by a Learning Coach who will provide feedback for marked assignments and offer assistance to the learner as required or requested.

Once enrolled into the program, students must complete the Orientation to Online Learning (OOL) prior to starting the program. OOL is delivered online through SIIT’s Moodle platform and can be completed in 1-2 hours. Online access to Moodle is supervised by an Information Systems Officer who will provide technical assistance and email the username and password information to the student once enrolled.
