Is Online Learning for You?
An online classroom provides an opportunity for learners to study, interact and apply skills on their own time, within a web-based environment.
Apart from the technological requirements of any program, it is important that the program be the 'right fit' for a participant's learning needs. You must determine whether the online course is suitable or accessible for you. Several sites are available to access self-assessment activities or obtain additional information on the dynamics of being an online learner. Some sites include:

While it may take time and practice to become a successful online learner, there are a number of basic computer skills, abilities that are required. These include,
- motivation to be a self-directed learner,
- an ability to manage time effectively,
- commitment to contribute to online activities such as chat rooms and discussion forums,
- an interest in learning through the medium of technology.
Access to the Internet and basic computer literacy skills are also required including,
- access to the Internet through a a reliable computer with adequate technical requirements (as identified by the requirements of a course),
- basic keyboarding skills,
- an ability to navigate the World Wide Web and work in programs such as Word,
- an ability to perform various data management activities such as: opening and closing files, saving files and developing folders or directories,
- an ability to retrieve and send e-mail messages, sometimes with attachments,
- entering data into a file, cutting and pasting information within files; and
- printing files (readings, assignments, etc.)
